Sneaky Ways To Save Money

Saving money can be hard to do, especially if you’re already on a tight budget. Here are a few sneaky ways to get money into savings. Even if you’re only able to add small amounts at a time, it will add up faster than you think!

Designate a small amount from each paycheck.
$10 going into savings each pay period will plump up your savings account quickly. If that is really too rich for your budget, set a smaller amount. Saving money is the goal here, even if you have to start small.

Turn impulse buys into savings.
First, you have to talk yourself out of the fantastic deal. Those fantastic deals are correcting something that was overpriced and not absolutely necessary most of the time. Take the money you would have spent on that impulse buy and put it into savings. This may be difficult at first, but once you start to see your savings grow, it will feel better and better to add to that amount.

Money found is money saved.
Finding a twenty in a little used pair of jeans feels like winning the poor man’s lottery. Put this amount immediately into savings, before you get any ideas about where you could spend it. The same goes for money found in the laundry, and coins or bills found on the street. Even small amounts make a difference in your savings.

Use cash and have a change jar.
These days hardly anyone carries cash. If you get to the point that you use cash most of the time, you won’t spend what you don’t physically have with you. Change from daily purchases can go in a jar that gets emptied and put into savings each month. This small amount each day will add up more quickly than you realize.

Pay yourself for good habits.
Have you made a resolution to exercise more or eat better this year? If you have, add an incentive to whatever good habits you want to foster. Each time you turn down a slice of cake, put one dollar in savings. When you don’t get that latte, put the amount it would have cost in savings. Even adding 50 cents for each walk you take around your neighborhood will add up quickly. These habits will get you and your savings in better shape!
