Don't Let Winter Freeze Up Your Finances
When the cold winter temps descend upon us, it seems that bills almost always begin to rise, be it utilities or other winter expenditures. Luckily, there are many ways that you can actually save money during the winter season!
Look for the places in your home where drafts are coming in and seal them. The most common culprits are around the edges of doors and windows. Extra caulking around windows can solve the draft problem and applying a sweep to the door is as simple as screwing a metal strip into the door.
You can also attempt to keep your thermostat set a few degrees lower than normal. After adjusting your thermostat, layering your clothing can ensure that you don’t notice the difference. If you get too warm, a layer can come off—if you get cold, a layer can go on. Also, setting your ceiling fans to run clockwise will help push the warm air back down to you.
Keep your blinds closed unless there is direct sunlight, then open them to allow the sun’s warm rays to help heat up your house. Closing the blinds when the sun sets will help to retain the warmth. Also, cooking at home can be an easy way to add some extra heat! After using your oven, you can leave the door partially open, which allows the heat to dissipate into the house.
